Late Night Programming

The University of Miami's Department of Student Activities and Student Organizations (SASO) is committed to providing a diverse set of Late Night programs on-campus for students. Canes Night Live (CNL) has partnered with the Student Activity Fee Allocation Committee (SAFAC) to provide grants of up to $1,000.00 per event to groups sponsoring programs that enhance the Late Night campus experience. Organizations are limited to receiving 3 Late Night Programming grants per academic semester

Benefits of the Late Night Programming Grant: 

  • Financial support- up to $1,000 per event 
  • Logistical support- meet with a member of the LNPG committee to help with elements of event planning process 
  • Promotion- your event will be featured as one of the spotlighted late night programs of the week, featured on SASO, SAFAC, and CNL social media platforms as well as through additional on campus marketing platforms 

Requirements to be considered for a Late Night Programming Grant: 

  • Application must be received at least four weeks prior to the event date 
  • Event must be hosted by a COSO-registered organization 
  • Event must be free and open to all University of Miami students 
  • Event must take place on a Thursday, Friday, or Saturday evening starting at 8 p.m. or later during the academic semester (summer or intersession programs will not be considered) 
  • Event must take place on University of Miami's campus and be alcohol-free 
  • Event must adhere to all student organization COVID-19 event safety guidelines and University policies related to room reservations, noise curfews, contracts, and payment 
  • Organization must acknowledge SAFAC and CNL as event co-sponsors 
  • Organization must put out a-frame about LNPG at event, provided by SASO 
  • Organization must advertise their events through campus marketing resources (outlined HERE) and tag @hp_cnl and @umsafac on social media marketing 
  • Organization must track and upload event attendance to Engage within 24 hours after the event 

Requests Not Funded (this list is non-comprehensive, and LNPG reserves the right to deny funding for any item per the committee’s discretion): 

  • Payments to UM students, student organizations, departments, or UM community members 
  • Late fees, rush fees, or expedited shipping 
  • Items fully or partially approved by SAFAC on a SAFAC budget 
  • Multiple requests for the same event, even if it’s from different organizations 
  • Items that do not comply with University guidelines 

Funding Guidelines 

  • Funds may only be expended in the manner in which they were approved. Any requests to purchase non-approved items using LNPG funds will be denied, and your organization will be responsible for the additional expenses.  
  • Approved funds will be deposited directly into organizations' SAFAC accounts. Any unspent Late Night Programming Grant funds will be returned to SAFAC at the end of the academic year. 
  • All expenses submitted must state that it is from LNPG as well as the name of the event you were approved for. Attaching your reviewed LNPG budget would also be helpful in expediting the approval process. Failure to do so may result in a delay or send back of your expenses. You should speak with your advisor to review available purchasing methods, and you can find details specifically regarding reimbursements at www.miami.edu/safac

Process 

To apply for a grant, please fill out the Late Night Programming Grant budget request form template found HERE before beginning the form below. A sample can be found HEREYou will be required to upload the digital version of this budget request. The form can be found HERE on the SASO Engage portal.

A board of students from SAFAC and the Canes Night Live programming board will meet to discuss your application and will email you with their funding decision. You may be asked to present additional details about your program to the board. Please note: the LNPG committee only meets every other week, so please ensure applications are submitted in a timely manner. After your event, the LNPG committee will send post-event assessments to you and your event attendees.  

The deadline to submit a grant request is Friday, March 29 for the 2023-2024 academic year.
